DME Providers: Is Your Business Ready for the Next Round of Medicare Prior Authorization Changes? One of the most important updates DME providers should be paying attention to right now is CMS's expansion of prior authorization requirements for certain DMEPOS items. 📅 October 28, 2026, is an important date. New requirements are taking effect for selected items, including: • Certain spinal and knee orthoses • Manual wheelchair bases (HCPCS K0005) • Pressure-reducing support surfaces (HCPCS E0194) Additional upper-limb orthosis requirements will roll out in phases, beginning in select states, including Florida. Why does this matter to your DME business? Prior authorization isn't just a billing department responsibility. It affects the entire workflow: ✅ Intake and documentation collection ✅ Insurance and coverage verification ✅ Authorization tracking ✅ Delivery coordination ✅ Claim submission and reimbursement When these steps aren't connected, missing documentation or a missed authorization can create delays, additional work, and potential payment problems. My takeaway: Don't wait until a claim gets denied to evaluate your process. Review the applicable HCPCS codes, confirm requirements with your DME Medicare Administrative Contractor, and make sure your team has a reliable way to track every step. 📖 Read the official CMS update: https://lnkd.in/e7V2sgFp At Noble*Direct, we believe staying ahead of regulatory changes starts with having visibility across your entire operation.
